In 1990, JRS established a medical and release programme to care for persons detained in the Suan Plu Immigration Detention Centre (IDC), located in Bangkok. The main objectives of the programme are: to provide quality medical care to detainees and to assist long-stay detainees who do not have the required documents or money to return home. We have a small office and clinic inside the IDC which meets the physical and mental healthcare needs of the patients.
Beginning 2005 JRS started a supplementary food programme to improve the overall welfare and living conditions of detainees. In the same year, we also built an open-air exercise yard to allow detainees the opportunity to leave the confines of their cells and to make telephone calls at the public telephone room twice a week.
